Abstract

The manuscript preserved at the Korneli Kekelidze Georgian National Centre of Manuscripts is a collection of Taras Alexi-Meskhishvili (1793–1874). The manuscript, along with other interesting information, lists the books translated from Persian, Greek, Armenian, Russian, Latin, and Italian into Georgian, which were known in the 19th century Georgia and one part of them was probably kept at the library of the Kvatakhevi Monastery.

In the paper the works translated from Persian attested in the manuscript  are analyzed. They are as follows: Kilila and Damana, Amirnasariani (“The story of Amirnasar”), Ayat, Jāmiʿ-i ʿAbbāsī, Omanian, Char Darvish, Stories or Tales History, Stories History, Rostomiani, Baamiani, Baramiani, Karamaniani (large), Karamaniani (short) Timsariani, History of Mir, History of Farad Shikhini, History of Firmaghan.

It is stressed that the study of these manuscripts shows which works translated from Persian to Georgian were known in the 19th century Georgia. There is presented additional information about some of them – when they were translated, who was the translator, which of them were considered as original works and which of them – translations
